Special highlights not to be missed

5 reasons for a nature & active holiday around Plan de Corones
We all agree - the Plan de Corones - in winter South Tyrol's No. 1 ski mountain, in summer, autumn & spring a popular hiking destination – is a (simply wonderful) place where you can do a thousand things.
But also around the Plan de Corones, the Pustertal Valley and South Tyrol offer some great highlights that should not be missed.
And here's our Top 5:

#1 Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park – In the heart of the natural heritage

One of the largest protected areas in South Tyrol, part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage since 2009. A colourful sea of alpine pastures, forests and mountain meadows that stretches over more than 25,000 hectares, framed by steep rock faces and rugged Dolomite peaks. Some special highlights: the karstified plateaus of Fanes, Sennes and Fosses, the high plateau of Prato Piazza, the enchanting waters of Lake Braies and of Lake Dobbiaco, a diverse mountain fauna - representative of the Dolomites - and a stunning variety of plants.
A real Must-See!

#2 Val Badia – Where the Ladins are at home

... therefore also known as the land of the Ladin people. The oldest Rhaeto-Romanic population in the Alpine region has preserved South Tyrol’s oldest language as well as ist centuries-old agricultural and craft culture to this day. You should definitely visit the villages of Corvara, S. Cassiano or S. Vigilio di Marebbe, taste the specialities of the Ladin cuisine and/or take part in popular sports events – from the Maratona dles Dolomites in summer to the Sellaronda Skimarathon in winter.

#4 Valle di Casies – Idyllic nature & views

Unspoilt, picturesque and evocative, this side valley of the Val Pusteria lies to the east of the Plan de Corones, between the peaks of the Vedrette di Ries group and the Defregger Alps on the north side. Charming mountain villages - such as Colle, S. Martino and S. Maddalena -, bucolic alpine landscapes and many opportunities for hiking, biking and skiing make the Valle di Casies a little piece of paradise in South Tyrol.

#5 Brunico – The beating heart of the valley

What would the Plan de Corones be without Brunico at its feet? The popular skiing and hiking area towers over the medieval capital of the Pustertal Valley and looks down on its historic town hall square, picturesque alleys and colourful facades as well as on its colourful shops, cafés and restaurants. Many culinary highlights, cultural attractions and events make the heart of the town and its visitors beat faster.
